I discovered this project during my November 2006 solidarity leave with "Planète Urgence" in Tanguieta. I have set my heart on it, because I have seen how difficult women's conditions can be in remote African villages: unlike boys, education is forbidden for most girls and they are often married during their adolescent years. Thanks to this structure, they will be able to access education and emancipation. These girls will become the future teachers and nurses of their region and will in turn spread the benefits of education all around them. They are the future of Africa.

To build an additional housing centre for young girls from Copargo, so they can go to school. Because of a rural environment in which girls' education is not a priority, of early marriages often used in the manner of trade, of very low family income, of young girls' flight to urban centres and finally because of the lack of housing, the women's illiteracy rate is extremely high in this region (98% in 2003). Built in collaboration with "Planète Urgence", the boarding school already comprises a dormitory, a classroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a flat for the teacher in charge.
The Selection Committee decided to grant €8,000 to this project in order to finance a large part of the necessary construction work.
Since her solidarity leave, the sponsor has stayed in constant touch with people in the field. She travelled to Copargo in summer 2007 to help with the first steps of the project. The construction work started in October at the end of the monsoon season and will be completed at the beginning of 2008: the dormitory will soon be ready to accommodate new students.
