Activity : Founded in January 1992, the Planète Enfants association fights human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children. This association works in the countries where trafficking originates to warn vulnerable populations (strengthening social and economic skills as well as community-based protection mechanisms, informal education, training, preparing the departure of migrant women) and to socially reintegrate victims of trafficking, domestic violence and sexual exploitation.

Context

The Project

Purposes

The general objective is to fight trafficking and violence against women and children in Nepal, by:
1) Building women’s capacity.
2) Raising awareness and developing a Human Rights culture, fighting gender discrimination.
3) Creating community-based protection mechanisms and enabling access to justice and social reintegration for the victims.
4) Reducing the economic vulnerability of women.

Activities

1. Build women’s capacity through the implementation of literacy courses.
2. Create 4 equal protection committees, each counting ten volunteers trained by a social worker: the purpose is to provide shelter to victims of violence or refer them to a hospital or health centre, to the police, lawyers or other community organisations.
3. Create “savings groups”, provide training in market gardening and livestock farming.
4. Implement income generating activities for 60 highly vulnerable women, selected by the protection committee.
