Note from the sponsor :
I have been involved in women advocacy projects since 1980 (UNESCO, French Education Administration, Fnac Dijon...). I decided to sponsor this project because ORFEE, in liaison with Féminin Technique, offers all guarantees of seriousness and sustainability; because ORFEE is based on open-mindedness and the deep commitment of determined women; because this project is linked to tangible initiatives carried out by the Fnac Dijon jointly with our key partners (media, etc.)

In France, immigrant women or women of immigrant origin are confronted to various prejudices linked to both their ethnic origin and their gender when seeking a job. They are often disqualified automatically in the labour market which tends to confine them to precarious or part-time jobs, e.g. in the sectors of personal care services or house-cleaning, regardless of their qualifications or skills. Some simply give up seeking a job, while others wish to mobilise to fight such discrimination. For these women, the need to join forces became obvious.
Féminin Technique (FETE, a cooperative enterprise) has been working in the Burgundy region for the past three years to improve the professional integration of immigrant women and women of immigrant origin. In order to help them gain visibility, empowerment and value recognition, FETE offered to create an association called ORFEE (“Origine, Femmes, Emploi”).
ORFFE has the following goals:
- Create and expand in the Burgundy region a group of women mobilised in favour of employment;
- Organise actions focussed on gender equality, giving visibility to women, helping them gain self-confidence and empowerment, develop their skills and their independence (conferences, round tables, evening debates, involvement in local events);
- Gradually expand the association to the 4 “Départements” (counties) of the Burgundy region;
- Help job-seeking women with advice, guidance and opportunities created by a network.
ORFEE intends to:
- Recruit members to create a network of women of diverse origins, in a position to sponsor immigrant women seeking guidance or role models;
- Produce communication materials to publicise its existence and activities;
- Organise two major cultural events over the year in collaboration with FNAC;
- Co-organise a job dating event jointly with FETE.
At its 17 June 2010 meeting the Selection Committee decided to support the ORFEE's development project with a €5,000 grant.
- A solid association, holding regular meetings, recruiting new members, developing its resources, plus recruitment of a permanent employee under an upskilling training process; - Structured creation and coordination of a network of women of diverse origins, wishing to get involved in the association and its cause; - Extension of communication channels: outside relays, press, media, partners; - Innovative events on a regional scale throughout the year.
