Note from the sponsor :
I support this project because it embodies the saying that "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for life". These women are intent on developing a durable activity that will ensure their financial independence and only request help occasionally. They also should be congratulated since, instead of migrating to the city like many others, they would rather find a solution in their own village. I wish to encourage this type of initiative because it shows that customs are changing and women are emancipating themselves in Africa. This kind of project will also benefit the population in villages around Sakété, around 15,000 inhabitants in total. Next summer, I'll have the pleasure of meeting these women since I have volunteered to work on the construction site.

This project is intended to help women develop their own local business activities. The primary challenge, related to the specific context of the region, is to improve grain storage in an effort to counteract price fluctuations and shortages faced throughout the year. The second goal is to help women buy equipment and learn the right technique to process the grain and tubers (palm oil, etc.) since they can derive a higher income from selling finished products. Lastly, the women attend literacy classes to help them manage and organise their businesses. In 2006 and 2007, the various projects involved the construction of a warehouse, a fence and several silos. The 2008 project will fit it with solar panels for power supply and involves the construction of a building to house the processing equipment.
The project selection committee has voted to allocate a grant of €6,000 for the acquisition of construction materials on the construction site, for framing, carpentry, earthworks, finishes, etc.
The sponsor of this project will be travelling to Sakete next summer where she has volunteered to work on the construction site.
