The Foundation extends loans to MicroFinance Institutions in an effort to curb women’s economic marginalisation.
Microfinance plays a key role in fighting against poverty, improving the population’s health and education, and first and foremost in women’s emancipation, an issue that endures as a major concern in developing countries.
While frequently excluded from the traditional banking system, women account for 80% of the microcredit client base worldwide, with an extremely high debt repayment rate of 98%.
The Foundation may grant support in the form of direct loans to MFIs or indirectly via dedicated Internet platforms allowing private sponsors to choose and monitor the progress of the women micro-entrepreneur beneficiaries.
Each year, the Foundation will support 1 or 2 projects of this type.
