Djamel, a Fnac employee, tells us about his 2-week solidarity leave in Bali….

Coup de Pouce offers the Group’s employees missions in the construction or renovation of buildings to provide support for women. This opportunity enabled me to actively participate in the field, by supporting at the same time a development project.
I went to Bali, to the village of Pacung in the north of the Island, from the 23rd July to the 8th August 2010.
I took part in building a workshop intended for the women of the village, which was designed for the hand-made manufacturing of traditional Balinese headscarves, mainly used for religious ceremonies. This activity enables them to develop local business without forgetting their traditions.
Each manufacturing stage was very environmentally friendly, with the use of natural colourants and a loom.
Two teams of around ten people took turns to successfully complete the mission. I was part of the first group, which began the building.
I spent two fantastic weeks with a brilliant team, in a really great atmosphere. The partner there was extraordinary; he really took good care of us. The Balinese were extremely welcoming: always smiling and warm, even despite the language barrier!
Working directly in the field made me experience the whole humane side of the mission. I really felt like I was useful. I noticed that the most disadvantaged populations were easily pleased and really focused on the essential, being far from the materialistic, consumer society that we are.
I would just really recommend participating in a mission like this. Being involved in a project that allows you to improve the everyday life of the locals is more satisfying than just giving a simple donation.
